With my art, I attempt to approach each painting with a childlike innocence. The paintings begin in a very structured format, using grids, drawings, sketches, and pre-cut shapes.
Each subsequent layer starts by adding and subtracting new shapes, using spatulas, brushes, paint tubes, tape, cut-outs, etc. I try to create a balance between the mind’s desire for structure and order and the soul’s quest to push the limits.
I have chosen oils as my primary medium because it is the most traditional medium, even though my work is contemporary.
In studying art history, exploring the new boundaries of abstract expressionism has always fueled my desire to paint. I am constantly pushing myself to new and unusual forms of expression.
It is my intention that people viewing my work not only have the opportunity to think and evolve in an internal creative manner, but also have a feeling of discovery and wonderment.
